Five Biggest Mistakes Businesses Make When Using Facebook

Five Biggest Mistakes Businesses Make When Using Facebook:

1. Not posting regular updates. One thing that is sure to put customers off is having a facebook page and not using it. It just looks lazy, and if you can’t be bothered to update your facebook page they will assume you also have a lackluster approach to customer service. If you need help use a social media management service.

2. Personal opinions. Unfortunately, in this case the customer is right. Never post your personal opinions on politics, or delicate current events. You are bound to offend someone and those who are offended are the most vocal.

3. Selling too much. Whilst social media is fantastic for customer retention and publishing offers and new product launches, if you go overboard it will backfire. Constantly shoving products they don’t want into newsfeeds will relegate your posts to spam filters. You need to provide interesting and informative content that fans will engage with so when you do have an offer it will be seen.

4. Buying fans. A big no. It is important to have a core fan base, 100 is usually enough. But if you’re a local plumber with 1,000 fans it looks suspicious. Also facebook has a very complicated algorithm that decides what is deemed as ‘interesting to you’. So if you’ve bought 1,000 fans none of them will engage or view your page and it’s rankings will continue to drop.

5. Automation. Don’t integrate your twitter feed to your facebook page. For one it looks lazy. Secondly twitter is another fantastic tool for business that can be updated with no rankings or spam to worry about. Facebook only really needs to be updated once a day. But you can update twitter every hour. Having them linked will drown your facebook content.
