Marketing on Linkedin:

Linkedin is becoming my platform of choice to find business leads, connect with people and monitor business happenings.

It is a great platform for keeping in touch with associates from different companies. I think in the last year, people are moving toward Linkedin because it has less spam. The only spam I find is in the group discussions and basically it can be managed quite easily.

As for marketing, I have found the status updates and company update feature to be very useful. I am amazed at how many people read the updates and follow their connections on Linkedin. These functions, give us the ability to post real-time information, the best part is that the updates may stay on a person’s page longer, because the volume of traffic is tied to the number of connections. This is really a plus for this platform. Basically your message resides on a persons update screen longer.

Group discussions can also be very handy. Most of the time, people have signed up for group updates to be sent to their email address. So everything you post on the discussion resides in the discussion group and the member receives an email to indicate that a new discussion or addition to an existing discussion has been posted. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone signed up to your website via RSS and received an email update when new information was posted.

I typically share posts throughout the day and make sure to attach a link to any updated information on the company blog site or this site.

I will also try to add people each week to find new business leads and connect with people I feel are very good at what they do with respect to tasks like marketing, shipping, accounting, etc. It never hurts to know some key people in these areas.

In addition, the “follow company” is awesome for following companies that regularly update their company information. It does not cost anything and it keeps me informed of particular companies with respect to personnel and news .about the company.

These are just a few ways that I use Linkedin. I read about new tips daily regarding this site. I would also recommend that you follow the Linkedin Blog site to stay on top of the new features being released. The information posted on the Linkedin Blog is very valuable and well worth the follow.
