Why Social Media is the Quickest Form of Opt-in Marketing?

Why Social Media is the Quickest Form of Opt-in Marketing?:

There is a lot of debate about the merits of businesses embracing social media and what possible use it can have. We’ve already covered why a business needs to be on facebook. But what practical applications are there?

The most obvious is initial data capture. In traditional marketing campaigns random traffic is driven to landing pages where potential customers fill in a form to qualify them. The bounce rate is obviously very high because to pre-qualify a potential customer in such a way can be time consuming. i.e. What is your name? Where do you live? Do you use any of our competitors? Are you likely to buy my product?

Then you have do go through the indignity of opt-in and double opt-in systems to ensure that an email address can be successfully added to your database. The benefit of that is you do actually get a slightly higher quality of subscribers. The disadvantage is that in order to repeat market you incur a higher bounce and drop off rate.

The advantage of social media is that potential customers are pre-qualified. You already know where they live, if they use a competing product, if they are married, how old they are and can pretty much figure out income brackets before you place your first targeted advert.

The opt-in process is also the simplest in the world. Apparently 60% of consumers are logged into facebook and twitter whilst browsing. So to bookmark your services and get your product info in their news feeds is a simple one-click procedure. At a relatively low cost you can engage with a pre-qualified captive audience saying, ‘ok, tell me more’. As part of a modern marketing strategy and another means of marketing distribution it is essential.
