Proof That Sharing Content on Social Media Sites Works

Proof That Sharing Content on Social Media Sites Works:

Although social media enthusiasts have been hinting that shared content on social media sites are great marketing tools; it wasn’t until a recent GE study that we have actual research to back it up.

Here’s a quick brief

GE teamed up with the social media site Buzzfeed and basically set up a research study were they surveyed three sets up of people (people who were exposed to a paid ad by GE, people who were exposed to a GE ad shared by others, and people who didn’t see the ad at all) to see if GE was “creative” in the eyes of the people.

The results found that people who viewed the GE ad via shared content simultaneously were more likely to develop the opinion of GE being seen as a creative company.

Furthermore, only half of the people who were exposed to paid advertising rated the company as “creative” after seeing the ad.

Now I know many of you may be thinking…. Well duh…. But I want to remind you of the huge implications that this study has created for all business types.

Implications

For social media based companies, this study marks the beginning of actual research based facts that we can bring to the table in regards to why having a social media presence is important. Although we know this in our hearts, it is sometimes tough to convince others that they should have and need social media engraved in their business goals and objectives.

For businesses small and large alike, this study shows an actual ROI in regards to the budget that you may be trying to justify to be used on strengthening your social media presence. Although GE notes that some more research would need to be done to strengthen its ROI backing, these results are still an excellent basis for such data.

Conclusion

I really think that this is just one of many studies that are to come that proves that social media can play a part just as important as traditional marketing and advertising. If companies such as GE are finally starting to realize the positive outcomes from such minute habits, such as sharing their content on social media sites, then other business should begin to follow suite as well.
