The most important metric that you need to measure, improve and focus for your online business and website is conversion.
A conversion is a simple goal that you have created. It could be a simple email subscription, a contact request or it could be a completed sale.
Ultimately, you’ll want to get more conversions from the same amount of traffic and increase these conversions as your traffic increases.
But when I first started out, this was not the case. I realized that my site was gaining more rankings and traffic from the search engines, but there were no significant increase in commissions and sales.
Later on, I found the reason why. I had traffic coming from the search engines, but apparently the keywords driving traffic to my websites are not very much related to what I do. That was a huge mistake, and I would like to share what I did to change my situation. Before I give you the answer, Please retweet the Quote below if you think Conversion matters.
We think we need more Traffic, but it is increased Conversions that matters.

So How Do we Find these Keywords that are Converting Highly?

It’s actually simple.
Just remember these 4 keyword groups for your product or service.
Brands
Locations
Buyer Keywords
Long Tail Keywords

Let’s talk about these 4 keyword groups.

1.  Brand names -  This are the highest converting keywords for your website. If people are searching for your brand, they know who you are and they are just looking for more information about your product or service. Make sure that your website is ranking for your brand. You may also want to monitor your brand for reputation management.
Make sure you’ve setup a google alerts to be notified of your brand mentions. If you use your name in your business, you might want to track social mentions of your name too! Brand names are so effective for me, that I even bid for my own Brand names. Yes, you’ll want to own every real estate piece in the top results for your brand names.Competitors can bid for your brand keywords as long as they don’t violate any trademark and legal issues so you don’t want to give them that chance by bidding on your own brand names.
2. Locations - If you provide products and services in a local demographic, then target local keywords. It would be easier to rank for “internet marketing mississauga”, than to rank for “internet marketing”. Even local keywords have less search volumes, they tend to be highly targeted. It’s a MUST to rank for these terms and for that you’ll need Local Citations. Getting listed in local directories like 411.ca, Yelp.ca, hotfrog.ca (for Canadian Companies) can really help a lot.
3. Buyer keywords  – look for keywords that are being constantly used as a buyer keyword. Usually, they would contain verbs or action words.
Examples of buyer keywords (different in each industry)
Buy
Read
Watch
Review
Listen
Get
If you can rank for these buyer keywords, just like what I did for my “Market Samurai Review” page, you’ll have a higher converting keyword because people already know what they want and they are more likely to take action if they are using these buyer keywords when searching for a phrase.
4. Long Tail Keywords - The Holy grail of Internet marketing. These are keywords that have less search volume (not a lot of people are searching for them) but they are highly targeted. If you’ll be able to rank for multiple long tail keywords, you’ll generate the same amount of traffic as with the “big chunk” keywords.
Example:
If I would go after keywords like “Keyword research”, it would take months if not years to outrank my competition. But if I target keywords like “How to Find Long Tail Keywords” which has less search volume (see image below) but is easier to rank, I’ll get highly targeted traffic, and at the same time rank faster.

I love to provide examples and case studies here on my marketsamuraiprodigy and trafficsalad blogs.
After 5 days, my blog post is already ranking in the first page of Google for my “targeted term” (See image below)

Nice! Isn’t it?
Implementing a Keyword Research Strategy before you even write your content, is how the Pros build their online business. If you are wondering how the experts are creating content for their websites, it’s by targeting these 4 keyword groups and not going after the “big chunk” early on.
And with Google’s Panda updates, it’s always best to improve the user engagement on your site. I’ll be talking about various ways to improve user engagement on your website, but for now, start targeting Highly Targeted Traffic using these strategies.
